In a messy drug bust this week, investigators uncovered more than 700 pounds of marijuana stuffed in a septic tank truck full of human waste, Arizona police said Friday.

And the search of the truck was as awful as it sounds.

"Yeah, that really does suck," Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves told CNN. "It's a long way to go to make a bust."

Cannapalooza, the three-day cannabis culture convention that had been scheduled to be held in Las Vegas from March 19 to 21, has been canceled by the Mandalay Bay casino, according to the event's official website. Although Nevada, like California, Colorado and a growing list of other states, has legalized marijuana for medical purposes, it remains illegal under federal law, so the fact the casino ever even considered inviting thousands of stoners to come and hawk their "herbal" growing equipment, smoking paraphernalia, vaporizers and the like is amazing in and of itself. One can also imagine that the casino might have gotten a few angry phone calls from law enforcement types.

In 2002, Britain produced 15 per cent of its own cannabis. In 2010 that figure is 90 per cent, and police around the country raid at least three factories every day. Organised gangs are cashing in on widespread demand for cannabis among Britain's youth by setting up sophisticated factories in suburban homes and disused warehouses. Research shows a third of the UK's 15-year-olds have tried cannabis and a quarter of young people aged 16-24 smoke it regularly.
