So you think you're a connoisseur, what with your cans of Beluga, Kobe steaks and stash of 1998 Dom Perignon? Backers of Pot Legalization Initiative Launch First Radio Spot
12:25h
The ad airing in the Bay Area and L.A. features a former L.A. County sheriff's deputy who says that the fight against the drug has led to drug cartels. An opponent calls the ad misleading.
The campaign to legalize marijuana in California kicked off this week, just days after the initiative made the ballot, with a radio ad saying many law enforcement professionals know marijuana laws have failed and calling the measure "a common sense solution." cannabisculture.com ... VIENNA -- Afghanistan is not only the world's largest supplier of opium, it also is the global leader in hashish production, the United Nations said Wednesday.
The U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime said it estimates that 10,000 to 24,000 hectares (24,700 to 59,300 acres) of cannabis are grown in Afghanistan every year and that this is used to make an estimated 1,500 to 3,500 tons of hashish annually. seattlepi.com townhall.com reuters.com bangkokpost.com Afghanistan, March, 2010 42 photo afp ... CBP Officers Seize More Than 5 Tons of Marijuana Valued at $10 Million at World Trade Bridge
10:00h
The larger of the two seizures occurred at World Trade Bridge when CBP officers processed a 1997 International tractor hauling a 1997 Trailmobile trailer driven by a 36-year-old Mexican national from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico carrying a commercial shipment of auto parts. CBP officers referred the manifested shipment of 20 cartons of auto parts for an X-ray scan that resulted in an anomaly detected within the trailer. A closer inspection of the trailer led CBP officers to the discovery of 362 bundles of marijuana co-mingled with the shipment. The bulk load of marijuana weighed a total of 10,661 pounds and is valued at $10.6 million.

“Tax Cannabis” in Kalifornien – der Anfang vom Ende des “War On Drugs”?
09:54h

The economics of legalizing pot
09:44h
I'll bet that some social economists out there hope voters will approve the initiative to legalize marijuana in November, if only to see how the marketplace reacts. Proponents are talking about added tax revenue of $1.4 billion a year, which no doubt would trim the state's deficit – some day – and perhaps create tens of thousands of new California jobs, some day. Those numbers are just guesses – the truth is no one has the first clue how this might shake out.
