Australian police have arrested 34 people and seized 6,000 cannabis plants in the biggest series of drug raids in the history of Victoria state.

Police Deputy Commissioner Ken Jones said Tuesday that the ongoing operation has smashed a cartel that has raked in an estimated 400 million Australian dollars ($395 million).

The Netherlands' new government has pledged to ban foreigners from being able to cop cannabis in the more than 200 shops licensed to peddle pot - which has long been a huge draw for toke-happy travelers to the liberal Dutch capital.

The Civil Guard are investigating a recent haul of 50 kilos of cannabis resin which was seized by police after three stolen vehicles were recovered from an urbanisation in Orihuela Costa last Friday night. Europa Press reports that officers made the find during a call-out to a report of suspicious persons on La Zenia Urbanisation, locating the 3 vehicles in a nearby car park.
