Zusammenfassung

Die gegenwärtige internationale System der Drogenkontrolle hatte zum ziel, die Schaffung einer drogenfreien Welt, dies fast ausschließlich durch den Einsatz der Strafverfolgung und von strafrechtlichen Sanktionen. Das Scheitern dieses Ansatzes ist jedoch immer deutlicher, vor allem weil es die Realitäten von Drogenkonsum und-abhängigkeit ignoriert.

Während Drogen einen nachteiligen Effekt auf das Leben des Einzelnen und der Gesellschaft haben hat auch das repressive Regime seine Ziele der Förderung der öffentlichen Gesundheit nicht erreicht und führt zu zahlreichen Verletzungen der Menschenrechte.

Die Androhung strafrechtlicher Sanktionen können Menschen, die Drogen benutzen vom Zugriff auf die verfügbaren Dienste abgeschrecken, oder sogar den Zugang zur Gesundheitsversorgung insgesamt verwehrt werden.

A federal judge in Michigan has heard arguments in the case of a medical marijuana user claiming a Walmart store wrongfully fired him after testing positive for the drug.

A gang of alleged drug dealers have been caught after they were photographed at work by the Google Street View car.

The gang were selling heroin and marijuana outside a grocery store in Brooklyn, New York, when the Google driver went past and inadvertently took their picture.
