A rhinoceros enclosure at Hellbrunn zoo in western Austria turns out to have served a more lucrative purpose: as a cannabis plantation, the zoo revealed on Saturday.

A caretaker at the zoo was able to grow over 30 marijuana plants in the enclosure, unbeknownst to anyone else, the zoo's director told the Austria Press Agency.

Ein 59-jähriger Pfleger der Dickhäuter hatte in einem sowohl für die Tiere als auch für Besucher nicht zugänglichen Teil der Anlage heimlich 33 Marihuanapflanzen gezogen. Der Mitarbeiter sei entlassen worden, sagte Grebner.

Police efforts to combat cannabis should be focused on dealers and organised gangs rather than individual users found with the drug, one of Britain's most senior police officers said.

T-Mobile's relationship with companies that use its mobile service to send texts is rapidly deteriorating. One day after a digital startup vowed to drop T-Mobile over a forthcoming fee hike, another texting company has sued T-Mobile for blocking its service.

The reason? Apparently T-Mobile "did not approve" of a company called EZ Texting, which does business with a website, WeedMaps.com, that provides information on the location of legal medical marijuana dispensaries in California.

Between 35,000 and 40,000 marijuana plants have been uncovered over the past month in sparsely populated Alpine County in the Sierra Nevada, authorities said.

Undersheriff Robert Levy said the plants, with a total estimated street value of $30 million, were part of a large-scale operation and appeared to be the work of a Mexican cartel. There was evidence laborers were camping out while tending to the plants, he said.

"The cartels have been all over California, Nevada and Utah. It's just new to Alpine County," Levy told the Record-Courier in Gardnerville, Nev. "This was a huge, huge organized grow with thousands of plants at a time."
