A memorial to ’60s psychedelia

The Memorial Art Gallery opened its newest exhibit, “Psychedelic: Optical & Visionary Art Since the 1960s,” with a colorful and interactive exhibition party on Sunday, Oct. 16. Activities ranged from a screening of “Woodstock” (1969) to tarot card readings to a live band and go-go dancers to free henna tattoos.
While approaching the building, the Gallery’s spire could be seen illuminated by swirling, psychedelic pink and blue lights, and ’60s music could be heard pouring out the front door. Authentic Volkswagen cars also lined the entire front walkway of the building.

Originally published in Welsh, in 2008, ‘Operation Julie’ by Lyn Ebenezer looks at what is arguably the most famous UK police drug operation in history. This English edition was published in 2010 and has the novel advantage of being the first book exclusively on Operation Julie not to be written by one of the policeman involved. However, as we shall see, this is still a collection of threads that are primarily woven together by the police operation itself.

Using LSD to catch fish

There are any number of wives who believe that fishing and mental illness go hand in hand, and now it turns out that, in a manner of speaking, they are right. Howard Loeb, senior aquatic biologist at the New York State Conservation Department Fish Laboratory in Livingston Manor, is feeding fish LSD-25 and other hallucinogenic drugs ordinarily used in treatment of the mentally disturbed, and if the experiments work out successfully—which they show promise of doing—their application will have a wholly revolutionary effect not only on angling but on commercial fishing as well.

New Trend: Gummy LSD

The Cranbrook RCMP want to alert the public to a new trend in drug trafficking that appeared here this spring. While executing a Search Warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, police located a bag of candy, which had gummie bears in it. The bag and it’s location inside the residence made the police suspicious, and a sample was sent to the Drug Lab for analysis. The gummie bear has been confirmed to be laced with Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, commonly known as LSD.

Review: "Orange Sunshine: The Brotherhood of Eternal Love"

As a teenager in remote South Dakota in the late 1960s and early 1970s, I had friends who traveled to Southern California and returned bearing strange gifts indeed: Orange Sunshine brand LSD, hash oil called "Number 1," Thai sticks. I had no clue at the time I was becoming a participant in a messianic drug-selling venture that spanned the world from its headquarters in Laguna Beach, but it turns out I was. That stuff my friends brought back from California was all thanks to the efforts of a group of Orange County surf bums and trouble-prone working class kids who took acid, got religion, and set out to change the world.
