Es wurden rund 1500 erntereife Pflanzen sowie eine professionelle Infrastruktur für den Betrieb einer Indoor-Anlage sichergestellt. Der 32-jährige, in der Region wohnhafte Schweizer, wurde durch die Staatsanwaltschaft St.Gallen, Untersuchungsamt Uznach, mittels Strafbescheid zu einer bedingten Geldstrafe von 12'000 Franken (150 Tagessätze à 80 Franken) sowie einer Busse von 24'000 Franken verurteilt. Wie es weiter heisst, muss der Angeschuldigte eine Busse von 2'400 Franken und die Verfahrenskosten von 4'690 Franken bezahlen.

Police in Colombia have raided the offices of the government body which controls assets seized from drug traffickers.

Officials said serious anomalies had emerged in the agency's book-keeping.

The government has taken control of the National Narcotics Office while the allegations are being investigated.

Police became suspicious after drug traffickers were found to be in possession of properties which had officially been seized by the agency.

Authorities seized an estimated 20 tons of marijuana at the border between the United States and Mexico in San Diego. A 600-yard tunnel used to smuggle pot was discovered in a warehouse in the city.

Officials have found 125 underground tunnels along the border built by Mexican drug cartels to elude detection since the early 1990s, ICE officials said. Of those, 75 have been found in the past four years. Many were discovered before they were completed. The majority were found along the California and Arizona borders with Mexico.

Under pressure to combat endemic corruption and the rich trade in illicit drugs, Afghanistan announced on Monday it had jailed 11 government officials including a senior policeman for links with the narcotics trade.

Afghanistan has long been the producer of about 90 percent of the world's opium, a thick paste harvested from poppies to produce heroin. U.S. and Afghan officials worry that profits from the industry are used to fuel Afghanistan's raging insurgency.

L.A. County officials are warning parents to be on the look-out for Halloween treats laced with marijuana.

Officials say pot treats, such as candy bars and lollipops are sold in marijuana dispensaries and could be circulating around.

"These lollipops, candy bars, they look pretty legitimate. The problem is if it gets in the wrong hands and a kid licks a lollipop, they get ill or intoxicated," said Cpt. Ralph Ornelas of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
