Calexico downtown port of entry discovered more than 9,000 pounds of marijuana concealed inside an open-top rail car — known as a gondola — that was destined for the U.S., officials announced today.

On Friday, June 4, at about 4:30 p.m., a commercial train coming from Mexico entered the Calexico downtown port of entry for inspection. Officers with the port’s Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team screened the rail cars with an x-ray imaging system that detected anomalies with the gondola’s contents.

Agents in Casa Grande first stopped a pickup truck Friday morning and discovered nearly 1000 pounds of marijuana hidden in 600 small packages in the vehicle, officials said. Later, a Border Patrol K-9 unit at the Ajo Station found almost 600 pounds of marijuana abandoned Sunday morning.

A Mattapan man was held on $1 million cash bail following his arraignment Thursday for trafficking in one ton of marijuana, one of the largest quantities of pot ever seized in Boston.

Boston Police estimate the street value at about $5 million dollars.

A mega marijuana farm contained inside 20 green houses has been busted by drug cops in a rural area 40 kilometres east of Prince George.

“Members of the Prince George ERT (Emergency Response Team ) Prince George Drug section , North District Drug Unit, Police dog Services, Southeast District RCMP Air Services (Helicopter), and General Duty members assisted in one of the largest Marijuana Grow Operations in British Columbia,” said Const. Lesley Smith

“Police located 20 Green house structures on a property in the Eaglett Lake area east of Prince George. Members discovered approximately 18000 plants in various stages of growth and 2 Industrial size Heaters and 2 power generators were also seized,” said Smith.

RCMP said the crop was worth $2.2 million.
