A U.S. federal judge sentenced a kingpin of Mexico's powerful Juarez drug cartel to 27 years in prison for smuggling at least 200 tons of cocaine into the United States, authorities said on Wednesday.

Drugs baron Curtis Warren, thought to be one of Britain's richest criminals, is due to be sentenced for a £1 million cannabis smuggling plot.

Warren, 46, and five members of his gang were convicted in October of a plot to smuggle the controlled drug into Jersey, in the Channel Islands.

An Olympic judo star was convicted yesterday of being part of a £50million drug gang.

James Waithe, 47, who represented Barbados at the Olympics and England in the Commonwealth Games, contributed to the gang's turnover of around £1million a week from cocaine sales.

POLICE said Thursday they had arrested seven men, including Mozambicans, for suspected involvement in drug trafficking.

They said the men were caught with 1.4 tonnes of marijuana which they were transporting from Mozambique.

At No. 41 on the list, Guzman is ahead of presidents like Russia's Dmitry Medvedev, France's Nicolas Sarkozy and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.
