With passage of Prop 203, Arizona becomes 15th medical marijuana state
11:16h
As of Friday November 12th, at 5:35 pm, it appears that Arizona's Proposition 203 has passed, by the slim margin of only 4421 votes, making Arizona the 15th state to allow the medical use of marijuana.
Under Proposition 203, doctors in Arizona will be able to 'recommend' medical marijuana to patients suffering from certain "debilitating medical conditions." Proposition 203 also creates dispensaries to supply these patients with their medical marijuana, enabling patients to purchase up to 2-1/2 ounces every two weeks; the number of dispensaries are liimited to one dispensary per 10 pharmacies. If patients do not live within 25 miles of a dispensary, then they will also be able to grow their own medical marijuana. Board: Lawmakers Should OK Medical Marijuana
13:02h
The Iowa Board of Pharmacy took action Tuesday to recommend that state lawmakers approve marijuana as a drug with medicinal purposes.
The Board of Pharmacy agreed to recommend to lawmakers that they re-classify marijuana from a Schedule I to Schedule II drug. The new classification would mean that marijuana still has a high potential for abuse, but would be considered accepted for medical use in treatment. ... Link (0 Kommentare) ... Comment

The latest enabler of a marijuana industry
11:00h
The Tacoma City Council – perhaps confusing Tacoma with Seattle – has taken the side of a fast-emerging marijuana industry that’s been shopping for compliant local governments.
The council has countermanded the city administration’s attempt to close down eight medical marijuana dispensaries (up from zero not too long ago) now operating in the city. The idea is to wait until the 2011 Legislature legalizes them. But it’s highly unlikely that next year’s more conservative House and Senate will do what heavily Democratic legislatures have already refused to do. What then – permanent toleration? ... Nearly 50 percent of Americans are for legal pot
10:29h
According to Gallup , 46 percent of Americans favor legalizing pot. Doesn't that suggest that if California's Prop 19, the ballot initiative to legalize marijuana, passes that other states will follow suit? After all, what state isn't facing hard budgetary times and wouldn't like some extra taxes from pot sales rolling in.

Marijuana as a Gateway Drug: The Myth That Will Not Die
10:28h
Of all the arguments that have been used to demonize marijuana, few have been more powerful than that of the "gateway effect": the notion that while marijuana itself may not be especially dangerous, it ineluctably leads to harder drugs like heroin and cocaine. Even Nick Kristof — in a column favoring marijuana legalization — alluded to it this week in the New York Times.

Campaigning On The Cheap, Prop 19 Still Builds Buzz
California's Proposition 19 appears to be the exception to the rule that a ballot initiative needs several million dollars for expensive TV and radio buys to reach the state's 17 million voters. npr.org Voters across California are divided on the issue of legalizing the recreational use of marijuana, but the division is especially true for black voters throughout the state. The California NAACP is endorsing Proposition 19. But some black religious leaders fear that passing the ballot measure would only hurt already struggling communities. When California voters go to the polls Tuesday to decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana use, the ballot initiative will be closely watched in Mexico. In California, supporters of Proposition 19 say one reason to legalize pot in the state is to help reduce the violent illegal drug trade south of the border, where Mexico's drug war has claimed some 29,000 lives over the past four years. ...
