India's Supreme Court has said that the use of a "truth drug" by police in questioning suspects is illegal and a violation of their fundamental rights.

The court said a suspect's consent was required to do the test and even then it could not be treated as evidence.

The District of Columbia Council approved a measure on Tuesday that would allow people with certain chronic illnesses to obtain medical marijuana from a handful of dispensaries regulated by the city.

The 13-member Council voted unanimously to allow doctors to recommend marijuana for people who are infected with H.I.V., as well as people with glaucoma, cancer or a “chronic and lasting disease.”

Los Angeles city prosecutors are sending letters to 439 medical marijuana dispensaries warning them that they must shut down by June 7, when an ordinance to control pot shops will finally take effect after years of debate and delay.

Frank Mateljan, spokesman for the city attorney’s office, said the Police Department and city building inspectors compiled the list of illegal dispensaries. “We’re not saying we have them all,” he said. “This is the initial blanketing of locations that we are aware of at this time.”

UK's Liberal Democrats, polling higher than ever in the lead-up to a federal election, want to remove criminal penalties for cannabis possession and allow Dutch-style cannabis cafés.

Internal party policy documents leaked to the UK's Daily Mail suggest permitting possession, social supply to adults and cultivation for personal use. The release of the documents follows an internal party vote to make it "no longer a crime for the occupier or manager of premises to permit someone to use cannabis on those premises."
